The company behind these pastilles, Pastiglie Leone, dates back to 1857, when founder Luigi Leone moved his young business from Alba to Turin and earned a royal warrant from the House of Savoy. More than a century and a half later, it is still known for that same small, softly crumbling texture and for its elaborately decorated collectible tins. Anise has been part of Italian candy making for a long time, and Pastiglie Leone's version leans into the traditional, more concentrated style of the flavor.
