Pastiglie Leone was founded in 1857 by Luigi Leone, first in the town of Alba and later in Turin, where the company became a supplier to the Italian royal court. It is one of the oldest confectioners in Europe, and it still makes candy the way it did then, in small, delicate pastilles meant to dissolve smoothly rather than be chewed. Mint is one of the original Pastiglie Leone flavors, and the Piedmont sourced oil used in it has stayed the same for most of the brand's history.
